I know that the Chaos legions don't look to Calgar as their spiritual liege, and neither do the Space Wolves. That was kind of the joke of listing every first founding of Space Marines. However, although the Chaos legions don't currently revere the Ultramarines as their all-around betters, let's wait and see whether or not Matt Ward is placed in charge of writing the 5th edition Chaos Space Marine codex. If he does write it, I somehow suspect that there are going to be a lot of comparisons between the Chaos legions and the Ultramarines, and the Chaos legions will somehow wind up just not quite as tactically proficient.

But shit, remove all the Chaos Legions and the Space Wolves and that description still doesn't look all that much less fan-wanky, does it? And that bullshit's real canon!

Wait. If the Gauntlets are from a Chaos Champion... doesn't that make them Chaotic? As in, tainted by heresy? I mean seriously, they're two powerfists with bolters stuck on them, it's not like they're the most amazing pieces of equipment in the universe, and totally couldn't be put together by a Techmarine with too much time on his servo-hands. So what's the point in them being Chaos? I don't know much about pre-Wardian Ultramarine fluff, but I'm pretty sure he didn't have the Gauntlets of Ultramar before Ward. If not, then it's obviously just his obsession with giving his special snowflakes OMG CHAOTIC WEAPONS to make them even more awesome, because they're so awesome that the Inquisition is like - is cool, bro, and also so awesome that daemons don't even try to possess them. See Kaldor Draigo for more silly daemonweapon nonsense. At least Castellor Garran Crowe is a Purifier, and the daddy Purifier at that.
