Campaign:Group Therapy/Conrad Hagen
Tubby Custard's character in Campaign:Group Therapy. This is his character sheet.
Personality Summary: Naturally curious 17 year old and with a skeptical, scientific mind, the young gifted Conrad Hagen was well on his way to becoming one of his generation's Best and Brightest, before his voice started changing and hair started growing in strange places and he realized... he was a werewolf. Well, he realizes it to the extent that his Talbot wards will allow him, but he feels he is on a quest to discover what he really is and his purpose in life with a renewed vigor, all the while confronting the discomforting (to say the least) reality that perhaps his reason and skepticism can't quite explain these strange nigh-supernatural happenings...
Being shy and somewhat of a loner, he's never felt that there's somebody else like himself except for his older brother, Arthur, and his teacher, Dr. Phillip Maxwell. One, for sharing his condition, the other for his support, academic and otherwise. Naturally, he's forged quite a close bond with his brother, especially with this newfound revelation that they both share the same 'affliction'... He tends to bury himself in his studies and his books, even after realizing that he'll never be able to live the normal kind of life he was planning on. He still tries to keep a semblance of human normalcy, almost to a level of being in denial of his true nature. Quite prideful about his cognitive abilities.
Background: He was born into wealth with pretty lax, negligent parents. With the dual isolation of being both intellectually gifted and a werewolf, he never had many friends except for his brother. Whenever his brother went on "adventures" when they were younger, Conrad would always tag along, even if he said aloud that the quest was 'dangerous' or 'stupid.' Secretly, he always had a taste for the unknown, and his attempts to satisfy this questing instinct with reading never quite sufficed. He subconsciously likes this whole "werewolf" thing, even if he won't admit it to himself.
He also has had an intense love of science, supplemented by tales of men such as Norman Borlaug who save billions of lives and advance the realm of human understanding. He sees scientific inquiry as its own kind of adventure in that sense. Noticed at an early age and inducted into the Preston Academy for the Gifted, where he met his mentor, Dr. Phillip Maxwell who took a special interest in Conrad. At the Academy Conrad took a particular interest in Chemistry, in which he was instructed by his mentor.
Always the younger and weaker brother, Conrad has taken more traditional forms of self defense, in the sense that he has trained himself with handguns. He is also a firm believer in the ideal that "Brains beats Brawn," but he has worked on athletics simply because he hates the feeling of being weak.
The here and now: After hearing about Conrad's loneliness and general trouble relating to his peers, Dr. Maxwell suggested that he seek counseling from the local Talbot chapter which deals with troubled teenagers, thinking that maybe he'll find others like himself there. Unfortunately, his advice was a bit late, so a short time after being inducted into this group, Conrad went into a Death Rage from his overwhelming unchecked feelings. Fortunately though, he was under the watchful eye of the Talbot when this happened, but he still is recovering from the massive doses of tranquilizers administered during his Rage.
Misc: Reads the Kitty Norville novels "ironically." Has a great, unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Bringing him into a library is like bringing a fat kid into a candy shop. This might be the main reason why he spends so much time alone, which might be the reason why he went into that Death Rage.
