Campaign:Nom's Pathfinder Sandbox/Krosh

From 1d4chan

An Ibixian standing at almost seven feet of height, Krosh Ashheart is an imposing figure garbed in black funerary raiment and an equine face veiled partially by a hood tailored haphazardly with holes to accommodate his horns. The beast does little to abate the stereotype of his race's savagery, as he has a penchant for destruction and feels charged with bringing death to the enemies of his fallen god. Krosh is an Inquisitor Servant of Orteneo, the God of Death (who, incidentally, is believed to be dead.) Krosh, however, is loyal to the deity even in spite of such circumstances, and strives to make the rest of the world see the same way - or die for their insolence.

Memories[edit]

  • As far back as Krosh can remember, he has been among the Ibixian. One specific memory that remained with him was the razing of the town Emera at the hands of his tribe the Blackhorns, though he no longer goes by the name "Blackhorn," preferring "Ashheart" due to remodeling of his soul and being in servitude to Orteneo.
  • Krosh fondly remembers the first time he killed - it was a fellow Blackhorn youth when he was but a kid, and they were out in the woods. They slew a large boar, though Krosh didn't see too eye-to-eye on the credit distribution proposed by the fellow youth upon reaching the village to show their trophy. He killed the youth with a stone since his hunting spear was broken in the battle with the boar, and got away with it by virtue of the fact that nobody knew he and the Blackhorn youth had left to hunt together.
  • A memory of a moment pivotal in his life is that of Krosh's induction into the Hooded Order of Orteneo, an organization of Reapers devoted to the beautiful horrors of Death as taught by their patron Orteneo. They are 'hooded' because their cult is secretive, as Orteneo is widely held to be a fallen God, destroyed by Tolvarus, the sworn enemy of the Hooded Order. Therefore, Krosh regards his allegiance as a thing to be kept secret - the Hooded Order is not well-known, therefore affording him an advantage in doing so. It is through the Order he received Inquisitor training.
  • Krosh recalls the demise of the Reaper's Circle, led by Exarch Morteus. They are the greatest servants of Orteneo, also slain by Tolvarus. Krosh was born the same year that this transpired by sheer coincidence, and so he doesn't recall it directly, but rather as told by new scripture and word of mouth.
  • Finally, Krosh recalls the moment he decided who he was and what he was going to do... the day he became Krosh Ashheart was the day he decided to fell Tolvarus and avenge the losses of the Circle, and to usher in the rebirth of Orteneo.

Personality[edit]

  • Krosh possesses a sureness of intent, to the point that his goals are perfectly justified in his own eyes. It manifests in the form of a subtle arrogant air he possesses.
  • His temper is kept surprisingly in check, though he is not one to forget his enemies and vendettas - transgressions against Krosh scarcely go unpunished.
  • Krosh is talkative, though not social. That is to say, he is wise and shares his wisdom and tactical brilliance, though he rarely speaks on a personal nor intimate level, mainly due to a lack of anything to say that is truly presentable.
  • Most importantly, Krosh takes his duties as an Inquisitor seriously, but acts effectively. Those with use will have their use taken, but those without it will be disposed of, so as to avoid loose ends. Thus, it can be said that Krosh is something of a sociopath, or at least has little to no regard for the pain and loss of others and the sanctity of life, if it even exists.

People of Significance[edit]

  • Tolvarus - a Blackguard demigod who attained his divinity by slaying Orteneo, God of Death as well as collecting the souls of all of His acolytes. He is Krosh's sworn enemy, though he likely does not even know Krosh exists.
  • The Hooded Order - a small, spread cult-like organization of devotees dedicated to the notion that somewhere and somehow, Orteneo still lives, and that those who do not remain loyal shall pay when He returns. They are new and not well-known, as Orteneo's demise transpired three decades ago as well as His entire following. Krosh's interaction with them is limited, though he is known among them. The Hooded Order is composed mostly of necromancers and assassins, and their individual agendas vary based on sects throughout the provinces they inhabit. The Hooded Order believes and teaches that Tolvarus, in slaying Orteneo, now incubates the soul of the God of Death like a seed, and that in ritualistically killing the demigod they can assure the rebirth of Orteneo.
  • Exarch Morteus - a shade which communicated to Krosh once in the dead of night, bestowing upon him the Exarch's Scythe, a veritable symbol of leadership among the Reaper's Circle (an order presumed entirely eliminated by Tolvarus.) With the scythe was given the edict that Krosh must seek the demise of Tolvarus and the ultimate rebirth of Orteneo and the Reaper's Circle.

Goals[edit]

  • MAJOR: Krosh's ultimate goal is to destroy Tolvarus. Whether or not doing so will truly allow him to bring Orteneo back is unimportant, he simply feels it to be a binding resolve deeply entwined with his soul. Vengeance is a domain of the fallen God, and Krosh will see it done.
  • MINOR: Krosh isn't sure HOW he is going to go about slaying a demigod and resurrecting Orteneo. Though arrogant, he knows that compared to a demigod such as Tolvarus he is but an insignificant insect, not to mention the whole prospect of ritualistically slaying a demigod to restore a God is over his head. Thus, he seeks to find a way to again commune with the shade of Exarch Morteus, in hopes of gaining answers and training necessary to secure his success.
  • MINOR: It is said that the Exarch's Scythe was once a powerful artifact feeding on the souls of the deceased, but the death of Exarch Morteus caused the souls to go free and the weapon to lose its power. Krosh would relish the opportunity to find a way to feed the weapon and restore it to its former glory.
