Background[edit]

Born to a merchant family in Great Forks after the older brother Second Obsidian and older sister First Obsidian. After the father First Granite died, First Obsidian inherited the family business of selling drugs, and Third joined it. Initially Third sailed up and down the Yellow river carrying shipments to junkies. After saving up some money, he set out on single-ship voyages looking for opportunities. The first, to Greyfalls and the deep East, was uneventful and only moderately profitable... until the return trip, when during a chance provisioning stop he decided to go wandering alone and stumbled across what was apparently a small cache of tomb goods hidden by grave-robbers. As he touched the artifacts, the Exaltation came upon him: a blinding golden light, a euphoric rush, and a certainty that there are more artifacts to be found. Having heard of the teachings of the Immaculate Order, he told no-one about this.

Now, a few years later, he has just finished selling his shipment of goods at (wherever the campaign is set exactly) and is looking around for something interesting.

As a drug merchant, he steadfastly refuses partake in his own wares. He finds luxury for its own sake somewhat distasteful and wears lavish clothing or holds feasts only when socially appropriate. At other times he eats simple food and drinks water or black tea. He tends to believe there is a right way to do things, but is laid-back about how others comport themselves as long as they don't cause trouble. He tends to view physical and emotional hardship as something that one must overcome on one's own; this can lead to him refusing to ask for help and being fairly stubborn about it. His greatest fear is to be destitute and powerless.

Appearance[edit]

Third Obsidian is a tall Easterner with brown skin and straight red hair. He tends to move gracefully and has a ready smile. He wears fine silks, sable, or rough traveling clothes as situations warrant, and his clothes are always impeccably clean. Around his neck is a simple silver band, and he usually carries a sanxian slung over his back.
