What is common sense in a nutshell?[edit]

Common sense is the ability to perceive and know what the sensible and logical way of doing things for the individual and the larger society as a whole. It basically is having your head on straight, realizing you should try to do good for everyone's sake, not just your own and generally trying to be a sensible and nice person.

White Wolf[edit]

In the old World of Darkness game line, Common Sense is actually a merit you have to pay points for. Characters in the World of Darkness mechanically lack common sense by default, which explains a lot about the setting. The merit actually was a sort of meta-advantage: players of characters with the merit could be warned by the Storyteller before they did something stupid that their character should know is a bad idea, like telling the local Prince to go fuck themselves, or deliberately antagonizing that guy that you have a dozen reasons to suspect is actually a werewolf.
