Embri are a bizarre alien race from Starfinder. Technically a highly evolved mollusk, they look like 4 foot tall lumpy black slugs with four spider legs, and a bulging brain sack. Like Vulcans, the Embri have trained themselves to hide all emotions. They wear masks at all times to prevent inadvertant displays of emotion. Eventually an Embri's flesh may grow up and around their mask, cementing it to their face. Under an Embri's mask are two closely set eyes and a single slit that is used for respiration, hearing and smell. they also speak from this orifice with a whistling voice. The mouth they eat with is located on their underside and is usually kept hidden, as Embri consider eating to be a private, embarrassing function the same way other species view waste excretion. Indeed, Embri are disgusted to see other races eating openly.

They have a rigid social hierarchy and are ruled by an authoritarian bureaucracy that is secretly in league with devils that dwell in the underground tunnels of their homeworld. Any rebels or free thinkers are exiled or executed. The Embri reproduce by budding, but budding is rigidly controlled by the bureacracy and only allowed on schedules set by the Office of the Spawning Administrator.

Size and Type: Embri are Medium aberrations.

Darkvision: Embri have darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Shielded Thoughts: Embri are immune to magical charm effects and receive a +2 racial bonus to saving throws against enchantment spells and effects.

Wary: Embri gain a +2 racial bonus to Sense Motive checks.

Masked Emotions: An embri loses its immunity to charm effects and its +2 racial bonus to saving throws against enchantment spells and effects when it isn’t wearing a mask over its face. In addition, while unmasked, it must roll twice for any Sense Motive check it attempts and take the lower result.

Alternate Ability Modifiers

Emissary: +2 Int, +2 Cha, –2 Str

Preceptor: +2 Dex, +2 Wis, –2 Con

Alternate Racial Traits

Bio-Observant: +2 racial bonus to Medicine checks. Replaces Wary.

Fleshbound Mask: When an Embri has its mask removed, it has a –2 penalty to ability checks and skill checks and must roll all Reflex saving throws twice and take the lower result. Replaces Masked Emotions.
