Setting talk:Unified Setting

From 1d4chan

Is there a current compendium or something for this? The page seems dated, and I'd like to help.--PregoCat 06:09, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Well we're currently waiting for an updated map and writeups for several things that just got added/revised recently.

I've just done a shit-ton of writeups from archived threads. If there's more to do, could someone point me to the threads archived?

Unified Setting descriptions in related articles?[edit]

I suggest we keep the Unified Settings descriptions in related articles, without spilling it all over articles like Kobolds or Draconian. That just messes things up. Fatum 15:35, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

I disagree. The Draconian page was actually created to host the US fluff. So were the Gnoll and Illithid pages among others. Non US fluff was put up top as a courtesy, so we are actually expanding the coverage for people not interested in US.
The pages in question don't even have links for a passer-by to find out what US even is, and neither do related pages have links on the articles containing bits of US info. I don't see how is this making things clearer. Fatum 21:40, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
To date US fluff doesn't take a lot of space. To put all US fluff on US-ONLY pages is going to make finding things harder. If and when US stuff becomes so lengthy as to overwhelm a page we should split it off then. ElGrande 00:41, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Oh doesn't it? It takes like two thirds of the articles I linked, and I don't see any other setting taking up so much - say, Dark Sun halflings are referenced in the Dark Sun article, not the Halfling one, and I feel this to be right. This way articles describe the way things work in MOST systems and settings, while setting/system articles point out the differences. Fatum 21:40, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Move US specific content to their own pages at "Unified Setting/Whatever", make sure they're properly categorised, keep non-US content on the original pages and provide links on the original pages to the US versions in the See Also section. This would be my advice. --Wikifag 23:41, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough. I'll start working on it. Just to be clear, the preferred set-up is Unified Setting/Kobolds? This seems to match the format of the other homebrews (for example Überstadt/Races) ElGrande 04:27, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Naysayers[edit]

Feel free to insert negative feedback here.

Serious map issue[edit]

I've been working on the fluff and we have a problem with the map. The former goblin homeland (now sadly sunk beneath the waves) was in the Sea of Ghosts. Nearest land is not the goblin islands, but human colonies.

I propose a switch. Just take the existing outlines and swap places. It makes more sense and the scattered arc of the goblin islands next to the Sea of Ghosts sells the catastrophe. ElGrande 09:31, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Sidhe? Wila? Consolidation?[edit]

Sounds like a case of calling a rabbit a smeerp (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CallARabbitASmeerp). A note explaining that these are what the races call themselves should be put on the race page. Unless we plan to change all mentions of drow and elf to these terms, which will just make it difficult to find anything. Likewise PC and NPC races seems like a distinction that can and should be called out on the race page.

In unrelated news, I think it's time to consolidate the Geography and Political sections into one "Lands of the Unified Setting" category. It is paramount that no information be lost and that all data about a continent be included in the entry for that continent. ElGrande 04:22, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Gods Section[edit]

This was removed due to redundancy. All information has been copied over (plus expansion) to Unified Setting/Religion. I hope the new format will lead to greater expansion. ElGrande 04:53, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
