Talk:Approved music

From 1d4chan

Since damn near every 40k faction page on this wiki has links to multiple Two Steps From Hell songs, they should really be on this page. I'm just not sure what category they belong in (other than awesome). Mindwarp (talk) 10:09, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Seeing as they're a music production company, I suppose perhaps you could put it under "Other", as they wouldn't really fit a single genre. LiVetoair (talk) 23:56, 21 January 2020 (AEST)

Composer Section[edit]

Is Howard Shore viable? I did some research but I'm not sure he counts, seeing as most of his works revolve around LOTR. --Lord Of The Lemmings (talk) 00:08, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

I'd say not unless he has a lot more "classics" under his belt. Morricone, Zimmer, Williams, and Elfman can all claim to have at least a dozen great film scores each. Saarlacfunkel (talk) 02:35, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

Additional question: Should those guys keep the Oriental writing for their names? I tend to be in the camp of remove it as their names are already spelled, and it comes across as excessive unless someone can explain if there's a reason for that.--Lord Of The Lemmings (talk) 17:35, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

I guess it is a bit excessive. I'll remove them. (talk)
Meh. I can take the moonrunes or leave 'em. My best suggestion is to answer Lemming's question with a question: Does it make any easier to find their works? Yes, keep; no, drop. Saarlacfunkel (talk) 01:02, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

Adding Krzysztof Komeda to Film Score section[edit]

His music is several leagues above anything already listed there, although it might be considered "obscure" for non-Polish neckbeards without affinity for good cinema. If there's no objection in this thread for a week, I will add him, with a note that his music, though scarce, is great for jazzy noir campaigns and WotD horror. --Taufag (talk) 12:46, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

What we're looking for in this section is composers who, more or less, have a body of work that is consistently good or appropriate for games. As I don't have time to look through his discography, I will say this; he is a welcome addition so long as the majority of his scores are good/appropriate, and it's not just one that sticks out. The "Other" category[edit]

In lieu of some recent additions to the category that I felt were inappropriate, I thought that, as the person who created the section, I should clarify. The "Other" section is meant to encompass music that is worth a mention, either because it is liked by /tg/, fatguys or simply just good for worldbuilding and creating atmosphere, but doesn't fit any of the other categories or genres listed. This included world music (like Munir Bashir), purposefully genre-bending music (like Trout mask replica and Trirarii), or music that was licensed under a company, like Two steps from hell, which would make it very difficult to categorise under the soundtracks section.

A good rule would be that, if you can summarise a band's discography as mostly one genre, or if they are mostly known for their output in one specific genre, then they go under that genre, perhaps with a note alerting readers to their other stuff. As an example, Genesis are known and famous for their prog output. Yes, they have infamously adopted more pop music sensibilities in more recent years, but to categorise them under "other" would be incorrect, as their genre(s) is very clearly defined.

Alright, that's all I have to say.

Love and peace, everybody. LiVetoair (talk) 21:14, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
