Talk:Ashes of Yggdrasil

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): I’ll need to add some addition rules for angry marine units as well. And I always have trouble writing stories with tyranids as they don’t have their own narrative perspective, so I’m struggling to write something where both the angry marines and the tyranids offer up interesting narratives, instead of it being angry marines turn up, find big bugs, then either get eaten or squish stuff. My best idea is that the last remaining norn queen for the hive fleet left dormant on Yggdrasil gained a level of sense of self (as opposed to being just part of a hive mind) while being stuck on a planet in the warp.

Chaledy (talk): That's a nice idea, maybe instead of her being sentient because of going in the warp it can simply be because of "normal" warp influences. Also, would it be cool if the reason why all the creatures are engulfed in flames is that the Norn Queen feels cold? But not only a physical cold, something more profound. As if being disconnected by the hive mind left a hole in her and she uses flames to fill it. I hope you get what I mean.

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): No I get what you mean, that’s rxactly the kind of logic a new sentience would use, same way a child woul, only with more tentacles and teeth. I won’t be writing anything tonight though as I’m doing whiskey and philosophy with a friend (aka getting drunk), where chances are we’ll discuss something along these lines.

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): It feels good to write something brand new again, the doc and I should have made an angry marine expansion ages ago. Also, my current idea is that the tyranid mind will try and create their own empire, and the angry marines are you cruel force that puts them down (your opinion?)

Chaledy (talk): I'm not sure about the empire bit, as a tyranid I think it would still need to consume immense amounts of biomass and I'm not sure if it knows how to farm the land (lol). I was thinking that maybe it would develop a god complex, seeing as how it can create and end life. That would lead to a reckless hive fleet that sees herself as superior and that cleanses all that it sees as inferior with its heat. But in the end, in all its "glory", it would still struggle to find herself and to stop the cold she feels. What do you think?

Chaledy (talk): I don't know how well the AM's warlord trait would work considering that the nidhoggr can't use gaunts and gargoyles but basically only monstrous creatures

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): Good point, I’ve got an idea for a replacement.

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): What’s your opinion on the story so far?

Chaledy (talk): I like it, especially the contrast between the part of the norn queen and the part of the angry marines (that is really funny actually)
