Anti-armor

Seems to me that the Avenger Cannon, when mounted on the Horus Heresy version, is actually not bad against tanks, at least not those with AV 10 in the rear. For 15 points, you can give the fighter Tank Hunters, which combines with the Strafing Run special rule quite nicely. Firing at an AV 10 ground target, it should take off an average of 3.5 HP, which will kill or almost kill most tanks. Against AV 11, it takes off around 2.6 HP on average. Also, the fighter itself has 2 lascannons and 2 hardpoints that let it take bombs, missiles, missile launchers, autocannons, or multilasers. --Bjorn (talk) 20:21, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

The real GAU sucks against tank armor and so does the Avenger cannon

Whoever keeps reverting back to 'the GAU is totally super-magic that super-kills all every tanks EVAR', fucking stop it.

You are wrong. The GAU-8 sucks against actual tanks. It's awesome against lots of things, but it is terrible against tanks. They strap anti-tank missiles to the same damn aircraft specifically because the gun can't reliably do anything against tanks. There is nothing that can make a 30mm, 360g round do as much damage as a 12kg 120mm tank round. Firing a lot of them makes no difference, because no two hit even within feet of each other. The hit probability is hilariously low even against something as big as a tank. You wanna know who tested the GAU-8 and declared it to be really bad against MBTs? The US Air Force. They shot off thousands of rounds at really old T-62's and the T-62's won. Google this shit. Look it up.

If you have really any concept of how fucking weapons work then it should be blatantly obvious that a 30mm round just can't get it done. Why do you think tanks have these fucking massive 120mm guns on them? And why did they had to develop a specific round made out of uranium and tungsten to actually fight against tanks with them? Because tanks armour is fucking hardcore. That's the whole fucking point of tank armor, right? To be hard to punch through. If 30mm rounds could punch through our modern tanks, then we'd sure as fuck be making them better armor. 30mm is a really fucking common round. Loads of guns shoot very VERY similar rounds to the GAU. Loads of IFVs and APCs have a 30mm cannon on them. Do you think a Bradley or a Warrior IFV can just straight up kill a tank? Like blow it's shit the fuck up? With that pidley little round? Bitch please. Even back in WW2, planes used 30mm cannons and even then without the benefit of 60 years of advances, 30mm rounds had some real problems doing damage to tanks.

Exactly like in 40k, the GAU-8 can do some damage to tanks but it can't touch the armor. It can hurt tracks, or gun barrels, or fuel tanks or lots of other weak points. But it CANNOT punch through tank armor. There's no way it could, it makes no sense that it would, and you are fucking stupid for think that. Hang your fucking head.

  • Sorry, Anon, nine hundred Iraqui tanks couldn't hear your whining, because they were turned into swiss cheese by Warthogs.
    • Those were killed by the Maverick Missiles. Not the GAU-8. Now the GAU-8 is great against light armor, it hasn't been able to kill tanks since its inception.
