If anyone's interested, nard is a bit different from backgammon: the players have to lead their pieces all around the board, so it's O-, not U-shaped, and both players move counterclock-wise. There are some other minor differences too. P.S. In the USSR backgammon was called "short nard", and nard was called "long nard".
