Talk:Codex - Tyranids: /tg/'s 8th Edition

From 1d4chan

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): We’ll need to add a general rules section to explain all the rules without descriptions, the upgrade system also needs redoing to make it a bit clearer.

Chaledy (talk): About the rules, to avoid copyright issue I'm putting only the rules that are completely fan-made or different from the original codex so that someone needs to have it in order to use this "fan-made upgrade". As for the upgrade system, I'm more than open for suggestions, what did you have in mind?

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): /tg has always had a bit of a blasé attitude to the copyrighting of rules, we can always just rename them. As for the upgrade system I think it should be a simple list of what the unit can take and the associated cost, a lot of units can’t take a lot of the upgrades so there’s no point listing them in their profile. Otherwise things are looking good, reminds me of the early days of the 8th edition angry marines codex, minus the swearing.

Chaledy (talk): for "upgrades" do you mean the mutations, right? Because I think that this way of listing them is very intuitive.

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): Might as well keep it the way it is then, it can always be changed later, nice changes to the dactylis by the way.

Chaledy (talk): Ok, the codex is now pretty much complete, all that remain is to revise the stratagems, add some more and to give a general look to all the data-sheets. After that, the only parts left are the expansions where I was thinking of adding more Biomorphs and units that are specific to those hive fleets and also some campaign scenarios and general missions.

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): Jesus Christ that was quick, it took a year to get the angry marines codex to its current state and it’s not even properly finished yet. On the subject of biomorphs, I think The Parasite of Mortrex just be able to upgrade itself to being able to fly, dependent on whether or not it produces normal or sky slasher rippers.

Chaledy (talk): to keep in line with the fact that characters can't take upgrades, I wanted to put it so it can fly but spawns only ripper swarms

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): As this is a tg codec, how about a campaign/expansion with the angry marines, there is very little/no fluff on the topic, you’d be able to create some angry traits for the tyranids(as they take on angry marine genes, maybe even some silencer genes) and the angry marines get some new lore out of it. Angry marine lore is certainly a topic I can convincingly write about.

Chaledy (talk): yeah, why not. A campaign could be really cool, maybe in the Ghosts from Below expansion about the Draugr hive fleet

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): What’s the basic fluff on draugr, how do they play and do you have an idea where you’d like the campaign to take place? And do we want to include any other factions, such as the tau (although tyranids vs tau male for relatively dull battles) or chaos? And when I say we I mean mostly you, although 4chan is a community and everyone can get involved your the one who got this going.

Chaledy (talk): For the lore of the Draugr you can look here:Hive Fleet Draugr. They are adapted for the dark and because of that their skin is pallid and ghost-like. They ambush their prey from below. They are highly intelligent and aim straight to the enemy's factories, supply lines and characters. I don't know if I want to involve any other race as I feel it would get too crowded. As for the planet, what do you propose?

Little edit: instead of the Draugr we can use the Ashes of Yggdrasil expansion with the Hive Fleet Nidhoggr that is basically flaming tyranids.

VeryIntelligentShadeOfTheColourBlue (talk): Nidhoggr it is then, the you can have a battle between the black brotherhood and a suitably firery Tyranid opposition. Gives me an idea for a battle, “skies aflame” an aerial battle of jet pack black brothers against a flyrant, gargoyles etc. And as far as planets go I don’t know yet, there was a guy who wanted rules for tweedle dick and tweedle cunt, who are currently trolling up and down the galaxy wide tear in reality. The rift gives us the opportunity to make an entire planet up, and say that it’s a new planet thrown out of the rift.

Chaledy (talk): perfect. Once I finish to put the last two units in the codex, I'm gonna start the Ashes of Yggdrasil expansion.

Edit: the expansion is on, if you want to start writing something, feel free to do it
