Talk:Creating Characters for Character-Driven Games
This is good advice. What is it doing on the internet? I demand that it be deleted immediately. The internet must not be used to help people have good characters. HUGE 15:38, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed. This is the exact opposite of everything the internet stands for. I shall impotently fume with rage behind my keyboard for as long as this atrocity goes uncorrected. --147.188.192.41 15:45, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- I saw this thread earlier today. Thanks for putting it up, man. 76.121.137.30 16:40, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
While I agree it's pretty good advice, I don't think it will help anyone. Rollplayers are too lazy to actually write all that shit down while people who are really keen on playing fleshed-out characters probably play games that feature these things in the mechanics themselves...--Teataine 19:25, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- There aren't any games that feature all these things in the mechanics. Some games like Reign (Passions), Mouse Guard (Beliefs/Instincts) or Polaris (I'm not even getting into that one) have mechanics that support characterisation, but no mechanic can get you to sit down and explain your character's philosophy to the GM. That's just general RP advice. I wrote the instructions for my own use in preparing a Trek game, and posted them as part of a question about how /tg/ers make their characters. They were well-received and I agreed to put them up here. The overall system isn't my work, I just described the process our GM put us through and added some stuff about not playing drizzt. I move to put an Awesome stamp on this. It is Awesome and full of Win. --FlintTD 22:02, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
- I second this. R8.50Mango 18:19, 27 April 2012 (BST)
This list of "bad" concepts looks ridiculous, those are one of the most realistic concepts for adventurer, after all, and many times they work very well. It's just not right to tell people to not make it, just because it's popular.
Proposal for the name section[edit]
"find names from the area he / his parents are from, if there are any specific meanings behind a name, try to find names that have different meanings but are from the same culture. If there aren't, take a name you like, twist it a bit, and use it." Edited a post I saw earlier, good enough for article y/n? R8.50Mango 18:19, 27 April 2012 (BST)
