Talk:Demon Prince

From 1d4chan

Come to think of it, aren't the D&D Demon Princes called Demon Lords instead? It's the name used in both the Book of Vile Darkness and Fiendish Codex I. There's only one Prince of Demons, namely Demogorgon. So should this page be split up, renamed or something else? - Biggus Berrus (talk) 12:55, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

You could move it, if you wanted to be 100% correct, and set "Demon Prince" as a redirect. Though "Demon Prince" does seem to be a widely used alternative term, you see it quite often in both BOVD and in FC1, especially when it refers to other Demon Lords as "Prince of..." Such as Kostchttchie: Prince of Wrath, Adimarchus: Prince of Madness, Pazazu, Prince of the Lower Kingdoms, Ox-Ob: Prince of Vermin and of course, Orcus: Demon Prince of the Undead. I guess the distinction would be that a "Demon Lord" will be a "Demon Prince" if he's actually the prince of something, but otherwise he would just be a plain old Demon Lord.--Dark Angel 2020 (talk) 13:44, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
Just after doing a bit more reading, the Fiendish Codex says: "Some demon lords are known as demon princes, but such titles are largely meaningless in a realm as infinite and chaotic as the Abyss." Though in the rest of the book it uses the terms interchangably. The Book of Vile Darkness says: "A few demon lords have even risen above the other demon lords, calling themselves demon princes. These are all self-proclaimed titles. There are no actual qualifications; the Abyss is far too chaotic to develop rigid standards" so yeah, I guess both terms are equally valid. The books use both terms interchangably. Though again, if you want to be 100% correct, "Demon Lord" is probably better as a catch-all term. -Dark Angel 2020 (talk) 11:19, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
