Military railguns use what they term "explosively injected" ammunition, which basically means a conventional chemical propellant is used in the first stage before the slug actually hits the conducting rails, to give it some initial velocity. So, assuming your RIFTS railgun is of the explosively injected variety (and why wouldn't it be?) there's no reason it shouldn't eject cartridges. --87.194.31.223 10:24, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
