Rule Zero and this page do a terrible job of explaining what the distinction is between them. They appear to mean exactly the same thing, that thing being DM Fiat. The only (apparent) difference is that rule 0 has slight negative connotations and the Golden rule has slight positive connotations. Also, this page doesn't even mention the golden rules from White Wolf games, which may be somewhat better known to some gamers. 174.90.223.176 03:51, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
- Actually, there is a distinction. Rule Zero exists to remind players that the game is supposed to be fun. The rules can be muted if everyone agrees that the rules need to be. Hence the proliferation of home rules and homebrewed variations. The golden rule in turn exists to give the DM an established control so there as a hierarchy in place that will allow the game to run smoothly and theoretically be regulated. Yeah, there are similarities but they are also notably different.--Naeondaemon (talk) 07:53, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
