Article Fission

Articles should be specific. Having an article about three different artillery pieces (I suppose there is an argument to be made that they "fit" together since they are all based on the same chassis, but if we used that criterion, we'd have to mash them all into the Chimera article; the guns are certainly distinct enough in their armament, history, purpose, and equipping), when the fourth major artillery piece gets its own article (by the way, the Basilisk page is in dire need of splitting), seems a little silly.

Here's my proposal:

• Split the 40K-related Basilisk information onto its own page ("Basilisk Artillery Gun", the full name for the Earthshaker + Chimera chassis artillery piece), leaving a disambiguation link on the original Basilisk page. Template:40k-Imperial-Vehicles will have to be modified to link there.
• Split this page into "Colossus Bombard", "Griffon Heavy Mortar Carrier", and "Medusa Siege Gun" (use the full names, since there are other /tg/-related creatures called Colossus [e.g. the Tyranid Hive Fleet], Griffon [the creature], and Medusa [see the main Medusa page for lots of things named Medusa] -- we can use redirects to make linking to these articles more convenient, e.g. "Griffon (tank)", the way we do with the Malcador Heavy Tank and Macharius Heavy Tank articles).
• Information on tank-specific weapons should go on the articles about the tanks (e.g. the article about the Manticore Launcher Tank seems incomplete to me without at least some information about the missiles that it fires). I'm not sure if that means we should remove that information from the weapon-articles (I mean, the Manticore is a missile launcher, so it's not like the information shouldn't be on the Missile Launcher page), so I'm inclined to leave it as is.
• The final fate of this page should, I think, depend on what links to it after Template:40k-Imperial-Vehicles gets modified to link to the split-up articles -- if no pages linked to this one except for that template, then we can safely delete it. Otherwise...I guess we'll have to talk about it here.

I'm normally not one to talk about improving articles and templates and such, as I'd rather just fix problems as I find them, but this change seems a little too big to do it unilaterally. --Not LongPoster Again 09:27, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Other Ordnance Vehicles

Should we include Ordinatus units here? How about the Leviathan and Capitol Imperialis, which do carry large ordnance weapons? I feel like there should be entries for those somewhere on this wiki.--70.192.81.128 16:36, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
