I've never heard of the second opinion. That said there is a grain (or maybe more) of truth to the 'not understanding the game' part.

  • He often doesn't grasp the reasons behind his thoughts on a fully conscious level (in other words he follows his 'gut feeling'). However his 'gut' has proven to be very reliable, although I imagine for many people he works with (and himself), it is frustrating to deal with.
  • He has deliberately avoided learning the skill of being good at templating because if a Wizards employee is good at that skill, he or she is pulled into doing it and MaRo considers himself a very busy person already.
  • He is great at design, but less so at development (at WotC Magic R&D, there is a distinction that is not present in most the game industry).

I don't think he is an 'arrogant, self-aggrandizing' part, as he has admitted mistakes he has made.--Emerald Claw (talk) 22:00, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
