The stats are they were in thread were balanced as far as pluses and minuses went, with the exception of the Air Caste who got a net -5. This is why I asked for feedback about giving the Air Caste an unusual powerful trait, such as the ability to reroll initiative and/or perception. Why were the stats changed so that there is no longer a net balance and no unifying factor at all? -Anon
25 BS was just ridiculous, especially in comparison to Fire. Possible solutions are 30 AG or more cheap characteristic advances I guess.

I don't think it's ridiculous for the pilots to be a better shot, but the Per/BS divide I suppose adequately covers pilot perception. Fire Caste should NOT be BS 25. It fucks up their statline and I know of no justification for it. If you want to give them a better BS, include a +5 bonus in their basic gear. This was an idea covered in the first TauDH thread. All the penalties of the Air Caste were kept and their bonuses reduced. To balance them, I'm not sure I support 30 Ag. We could increase their Per one more step and level their Toughness to 20 with the rest of the Tau. From here, a trait could be added that increases the effect of any Impact criticals. This would be done to simulate their weaker structures and bones without giving them a Toughness penalty. What do you think? -Statanon
On Fire: Int 15? I REALLY LOVE the thought of them being unfit for social life. Also, if the all-martial caste does not get a better BS, the pilots shouldn't as well(unless it's explicitly stated they have better eyesight). As for the brittle bones, it sounds great, but I'd not try to compensate a statline with it. You are right, the Air's gotta be fixed though. Wolesz 00:44, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
We should really cover this in the thread! The first problem I see with the Fire Caste's Int 15 is that it would make them as intelligent as Kroot. Which is... wrong. But I also feel it's wrong to lower Kroot to 10. We might consider a global boost to Int for all Tau, to balance out the global WS penalty. In some ways it fits (more adaptive mindset) but it's bound to get under people's skin too. If we did this the Fire Tau would have an effective Int penalty, but not one that reduced them to 15.
I have a tendency to agree with the BS. When I included it I expected it would be overruled, but the statline seemed to be accepted. The problem is the Air Caste are both brittle and unsociable - so how do we compensate for these disadvantages? The brittle bones isn't so much a compensatory measure, it's just to level out the pluses and minuses so they aren't sitting on a net penalty...
Last thought: differentiate between planet-born and space-born Air Caste. The latter get the -5 Toughness but some compensatory traits (More Ag? A suite of skills or a unique trait?) whereas the former don't get hit with the additional penalty. Oh, and I'm favour of the Fire Caste basic gear increasing BS. They have more prominent, more numerous and more advanced sights. Plus, it makes anything that shuts down tech or messes with signals doubly annoying. -Statanon
There's no easy solution, as statwise the Air won't get much more than AG and PER... I stay with 30 AG to compensate. For Fire, I'm gonna concede the 25 WS, as they seem to be average shots in fact, also you're right on the augmentations. Combined with the tracking systems, drones and some wise aiming from the players this can make their BS godlike for early ranks. As for the voidborn Air Caste, this could be done in the same manner as the septs. Wolesz 01:23, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Fuck, they're still unbalanced. Perhaps 20 FEL and a Voidborn-esque modifiers on social tests will do? Wolesz 01:27, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that could cover it. I wouldn't say they are more isolated than the Voidborn from general Tau society. That's a better idea than the Fel penalty all around in my book. -Statanon
Fine then. Wolesz 01:29, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm considering some makeovers to the Strength in Unity(former An Army of Individuals Working Towards the Greater Good)trait. I think it is too weak for its current costs, so either remove the once per session/fate point expense, add more possibilities, like lending Talents(would be bizarre and perhaps overpowered, on par with maybe even the Interrogator trait), or swapping Characteristics. Also, we could do it so that bonding somehow improves it. Thoughts? Wolesz 19:52, 29 June 2010 (UTC
Remove the Fate Point expense, I think. It would remove inhibitions about making use of the trait. Anything more than once per session might lead to loss of difficulty and would negate the importance of specialization. Also, is it once per session for both participants (The person using the Talent/Skill and the person providing it), or just once per session for the person making use of the borrowed Talent/Skill? The second method might be better, in my opinion. - FF-Syk
It is the second indeed. Wolesz 20:14, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Maybe we should change the limits depending on whether the use is for Skills or Talents? Maybe it's a once-a-session thing for Talents, and only, for instance, once-a-game-day for exchanged Skills. Or maybe they have the same once-a-session rate, and only Talents require Fate Points to exchange. - FF-Syk
On second thought, some Talents are just impossible to "lend". Check out Autosanguine for example. Maybe lending characteristics? Also, I say it should be once-per-session for skillz, FP for other stuff. Aand, gow should it work with stuff like Speak Language, or Lore? Wolesz 20:23, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Lending characteristics seems possible. There's a Space Marine model that can let any Scout in his unit use his BS, for instance, so it's not too unfeasible. - FF-Syk
New thread:http://boards.4chan.org/tg/res/10825110#10825367 Also, come to the chat. Wolesz 20:26, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Added some more Drone equipment to the table. - FF-Syk
Great job on the equipment. Also, programs and controlling rules added. Wolesz 13:07, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Some basic Propellers added. Wolesz 13:31, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Nice job FF and Wolesz, those rules look playable, and interesting. -Pvt Chuck
Career Paths and Start-up Gear[edit]
What are we we doing for the Career Paths for each 'class' and their starting gear? And their abilities?
Also about Kroot, Demiurg and Vespid, will they get specific home planet bonuses as well? If so, what?
Thanks guys, just really want to have a go with this game.
