Talk:Order Of The Anointed Arrow

Discussion[edit]

The Anointer could either be designed as a new ranged weapon option for Celestians, or instead as its own unit. I'll let someone who's better at homebrewing crunch figure that one out. I've made a weapon stats suggestion below, but feel free to tweak it and add any new rules you fancy. Aporia (talk) 02:18, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

I would recommend making Anointers their own unit. It'll be easier to work out crunch-wise, and will help compensate for not having Repentias or Mortifiers. --Conqueror (talk) 00:43, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Sounds good. Although do you think it can be balanced for a separate Canoness weapon option to replace the chainsword? Aporia (talk) 23:39, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Also the current weapon stats seem really good? A primaris eliminator firing hyperfrag rounds only does 36" Heavy D3 5/0/1 targets characters. 36" Heavy (in effect) D3 5/-1/1 targets characters plus no cover seems very powerful even for an elite unit. Explosive weapons also usually don't seem to have much in the way of AP in general. Maybe we should tone it down to 36" Heavy D3 5/0/1 can target characters plus no cover? This would also give an opportunity to re-introduce bonus AP from optional wargear/relic. Aporia (talk) 07:16, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

The idea was to give it a profile comparable to a heavy flamer, hence the AP -1. I would argue for keeping it; although it's better than the hyperfrag round, I think it's still worse than the Bolt Sniper Rifle overall. That being said, if you don't like it, we can definitely change it; these are your dudes chicks after all. I removed the ability to cause mortal wounds with the Order Conviction (because that could be insane with storm bolter Dominions) and added speculative rules for Anointers. I'm not totally familiar with all the changes in 9th edition yet, and their points cost will almost certainly need to be tweaked, but I tried to make them as up-to-date as possible. Let me know what you think. --Conqueror (talk) 16:39, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Suggested Rules[edit]

Conviction, Stratagem, Warlord trait etc go here.

Order Conviction: Death from Afar[edit]

Sisters of the Anointed Arrow stalk their enemies on the battlefield sight unseen, dispensing the Emperor's judgement from afar while remaining hidden from retaliation.

When resolving an attack made with a ranged weapon against a unit with this conviction by a model that is more than 12" away, that unit is treated as having the benefit of cover to its saving throw. Additionally, when an INFANTRY model with this conviction is selected to attack with a Rapid Fire weapon in the Shooting phase, you can elect to change the weapon Type to Heavy (e.g. a Rapid Fire 1 weapon would become a Heavy 1 weapon). If you do so, the weapons Range is increased by 6" and it gains the following ability: Each time you select a target for this weapon, you can ignore the Look Out, Sir rule.

ORDER OF THE ANOINTED ARROW detachments cannot include REPENTIA or MORTIFIER units.

Stratagem: Aim for the Heart[edit]

When the enemy gathers in strength, the Anointed Arrow finds opportunities to undo that strength with a single perfectly placed shot.

This Stratagem costs 1 Command Point. Use this Stratagem in the Shooting phase when a ORDER OF THE ANOINTED ARROW INFANTRY model from your army rolls a wound roll of 6+. The attack inflicts 1 mortal wound on the target in addition to any other damage.

Warlord Trait: Righteous Executioner[edit]

Following in the footsteps of Saint Marsilia, this leader is skilled in laying low enemy infantry wherever they may be found.

Your Warlord adds 1 to wound rolls made with ranged weapons when targeting INFANTRY.

Relic: The Revelation of Saint Marsilia[edit]

The very first Revelation Auspex used by the Anointed Arrow belonged to Saint Marsilia herself. Unlike latter examples of the bionic eye, its machine spirit has become truly inspired by its original bearer's legendary skill. This device will allow any Battle Sister wearing it, either as an interfaced bionic, or as a common visor, to gain an unparalleled clarity of sight. It is said that if the bearer proves herself worthy, she will receive sacred visions in the heat of battle to guide her in seizing victory from the jaws of defeat.

ORDER OF THE ANOINTED ARROW INFANTRY model only. If the bearer moved during the Movement phase, it does not subtract 1 from hit rolls when firing a Heavy weapon. Once per battle, this model may re-roll a failed hit roll.

ABILITIES:

Acts of Faith, Sacred Rites, Shield of Faith (see pages 75-76 of Codex: Adepta Sororitas)
  • Concealed Positions: When you set up this unit during deployment, it can be set up anywhere on the battlefield that is more than 9" away from the enemy deployment zone and any enemy models.
  • Cameoline Armor: Each time a ranged attack is allocated to a model in this unit while it is receiving the benefits of cover, add an additional 1 to any armor saving throw made against that attack.
  • Fighting Retreat: The first time this unit fires Overwatch in your opponent’s turn, it can, after it has resolved its Overwatch, move as if it were your Movement phase (it cannot Advance as part of this move).
  • Guiding Shot: During your Shooting phase, one model in this unit can mark an enemy unit for destruction instead of firing a ranged weapon. If they do so, friendly ADEPTUS MINISTORUM and ASTRA MILITARUM models re-roll hit rolls of 1 made against the marked unit for the remainder of the phase.
  • Lone Huntress: If this unit is deployed with only one model, it gains the CHARACTER keyword.
