Talk:Riptides aren't OP in 7th
How can something be a meme if it's not even 24 hours old? - Biggus Berrus (talk) 08:52, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
- By being an idea that jumps from brain to brain like wildfire? If you don't think it's appropriate, we can remove it from the meme category for now and reevaluate its status in a few weeks. -Badmarine (talk) 04:00, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
- Would you mind posting links to the threads? Because I've been looking through /tg/ and not only am I unable to find this thread, but I'm unable to find any mentions outside of this thread, and if it isn't mentioned anywhere else or if it's dead and archived already, then it's not a meme and really shouldn't have a page on here. For the record I really don't think this should have a page on here, at least not this early as this is far too early for it, otherwise there should be dozens of these sorts of pages because one-thread jokes (which this seems to be) are not that uncommon at all (see the former page called Tubes and the thread that was based on that, if it's still around which I doubt). -- Triacom (talk) 05:04, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
- It starts here: https://boards.4chan.org/tg/thread/49742120#p49745314
- Continues in this thread, where the suggestion to make a 1d4chan page is made: https://boards.4chan.org/tg/thread/49746366
- A few lame ones and spam posts with no new content sprinkled in this thread https://boards.4chan.org/tg/thread/49751483#p49751483
- More spam posts. Someone makes the observation that perhaps the injured party is spamming the copypasta to make people sick of it: https://boards.4chan.org/tg/thread/49755893#p49756373
- But it still lives on sensibly in the current thread: https://boards.4chan.org/tg/thread/49763060#p49763362 --Badmarine (talk) 06:54, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
- Well now that I've read it all I can safely say that somebody's building up spam to be way more than it is. Most of those pages don't focus on those posts and the majority of them are ignored, even in the thread where you say it 'lives on' it's been used all of once and in the rest the posts make up next to nothing of the topic, or are entirely unrelated (for example, in the second to last link the posts happen somewhat near the top, but there's next to none of them, the thread is huge, and they stop almost immediately once everyone ignores them). There's also very little variety, almost all post past the first thread are just re-posts of older posts rather than new content. If this should go somewhere it should be added to the spam page as an example of spam, and maybe not even that since I've seen posts that were used more but haven't been given their own pages, for example people constantly one-upping each other with purity seals (one thread I saw swapped to nothing but purity seal discussions once they were brought up). The only reason I'd see for giving it its own page would be to wait a little while and see if more than one person keeps using it after a few days (if you want to prove your point, then you shouldn't use it either), otherwise it's just another one thread/one day joke that /tg/ will forget once all the pages are archived long enough to be deleted. -- Triacom (talk) 08:36, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
- http://boards.4chan.org/tg/thread/49936758 for the Riptides are fine meme. I think that while you may not agree that this is a "meme", it is representative of the attitudes held by posters in the 40k General and is proof that it has continued on, which negates your claim that this is a "one day joke". --Penitentghost (talk) 01:45, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
- I really wish I could check the IP of posters to see whether or not it is a meme or just one user desperately going 'It's not dead! It's not dead!' From what I can see of it everyone is sick of it except for one poster, even the other guy arguing that riptides are fine is using a different format to Riptides aren't OP so you can't qualify them as the same thing, otherwise this might as well be moved to that katanas page. -- Triacom (talk) 02:14, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
- I'll tell you this much, either one guy is posting the other nine tenths of it that I'm not or a lot of people like it. All I did was post the Space Marines reply that kicked it off.--Penitentghost (talk) 02:22, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
- If a lot of people like it then why are they always annoyed whenever it shows up and why is it almost always ignored barring maybe one reply (if the commenter's lucky) outside of its initial thread? -- Triacom (talk) 06:28, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
- You can't say only one person is spamming the pasta and then claim you know more than one person is upset about the pasta. It doesn't go both ways. We can wait and see what happens and if it really is dead then in a few months this page can be deleted. It's like 33KB right now, I don't think it's taking up much server space and if it is dead nobody is visiting it so it's not using much of 1d4chan's bandwidth. --Penitentghost (talk) 18:33, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
- I didn't say one person was spamming it, and I didn't say that I know more than one person was upset about the spamming. I'm not sure where you got that from, I simply said that I wish I had the ability to double check and see whether or not that was the case (whether it was one person or not). -- Triacom (talk) 00:45, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- My Bad, that's what I thought you were implying. Though you did say that "if a lot of people like it why are they getting annoyed" so you can see why it would not be unreasonable for me to assume that's what you were saying--Penitentghost (talk) 02:18, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

MAD WAS HAD[edit]
You know you don't need to get buttblasted over making a foolish sounding tau-wank with a billion spelling and grammar errors, right?
- Shall we start a section detailing the subsequent rage? I've got the original thread and the one after it saved and can provide example butthurt screenshots -Badmarine (talk) 04:00, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
Just to be clear[edit]
Temporarily protecting the main page and blocking the user who blanked it doesn't mean this page is necessarily staying -- I'm just enforcing the proper way to go about deleting something (find consensus, tell the admins). --AssistantWikifag (talk) 03:57, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
- I agree, time will tell if this is worth keeping or not. It could also use a cleanup, the unfunny entries don't necessarily have to be on the page. -Badmarine (talk) 04:00, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
It's Dead[edit]
It seems that this forced attempt at a meme is dead. Only one or two people still make a reference to it, and nobody seems to get a tickle out of it. It was pushed too far too fast and lost any value. The only really funny entry I see is the ordinatus at the end. Thoughts?
I think you're the guy who originally posted it as you made this comment from the same IP that deleted the wiki page initially. Maybe you should just accept that you wrote something dumb and move on? --Penitentghost (talk) 01:47, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
- Called it. - Biggus Berrus (talk) 22:43, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Im not the same guy but, okay whatever you say dude.
- Editing my comments is childish and I would like a moderator to review blocking this IP[[1]] from making any further edits.
- In this case, since I'd only block for a few days for a first-ish offense of childish vandalism, and it looks like 2601's not posted in a few days, it's not worth applying a block at this point, but I'll keep a closer eye on 2601's behavior going forward.
- I would like to point out that 69.243.3.46 has continously blanked or vandalised this page. How much vandalism does an accountless IP need to commit before they deserve a ban? --Penitentghost (talk) 20:00, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
- "Continuously"? He blanked the page and talk page a week ago, I blocked him for a day, he got the hint and stopped.
- Unless I see an objection backed up with some facts in a few days, I'm going to move these mutant copypastas over to Katanas are Underpowered in d20. --AssistantWikifag (talk) 20:06, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- My bad, I had assumed that it was the same person doing it. Obviously they are different IP addresses, but that doesn't mean it's a different person. I would like to just say that Katanas are Underpowered in d20 is more or less completely dead though, at least I have not seen it posted in years. This isn't actually the same as Katanas are underpowered either. Yes, they both are a dumb person defending something they like in a really bad way and then being changed slightly in order to lampoon the original post, but that's more or less the extent of the similarities. I'd like to move for keeping this page as it is. The only people who seem to be objecting strongly are random IPs who engage in vandalism. --Penitentghost (talk) 23:28, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
- actually I stand corrected, this would be the second time that 69.243.3.46 has blanked the page. --Penitentghost (talk) 23:37, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

- Speaking of the life or death of this page, it appears that it's best filed as a variant of Katanas are Underpowered in d20 (and it seems I'm not the first to make this connection). --AssistantWikifag (talk) 01:38, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
