Talk:Salamander Reconnaissance Tank

If we ever get more things called "salamander" and need to make a disambiguation page, here it is:

Salamanders are amphibians -- in fact, all amphibians that aren't frogs, toads, or Caecilians (i.e. they have four limbs and a tail) are salamanders.

They're pretty nifty creatures; they can re-grow lost limbs and drop their tail to escape predators. In mythology they are associated with the element of fire, possibly because they like to hide in dead logs and would escape as soon as the log was lit on fire. Back in the day, this was considered enough "evidence" to conclude that the salamander had, in fact, been born from the fire, and the myths grew from there. They grew to have a reputation for being able to walk through fire unharmed, or even put out fires if they wished. The mineral fabric asbestos was called "salamander wool" (despite the fact that salamanders are hairless) for its fireproof properties.
