Talk:The Dresden Files RPG

From 1d4chan

Lore Points of Contention.

  • Tessa being a prostitute: Small Favors mentions her being sold to a Temple of Isis in Thessalonica, but after researching it I'm not seeing any connection between that and prostitution. There could be some correlation in that she was generally worshipped by the downtrodden (in Thessalonica moreso than other places), which probably includes some prostitutes, but that doesn't mean much. If this is another one of those things that butcher said in his blog or whatever, source it.
Ivy mentioned profit margins related to Tessa's sale to the temple, meaning that she was a source of income for the temple. This would not have happened if Tessa was just an initiate in the temple. Combined with Thessalonica's state as "downtrodden" and that temple prostitution used to be a thing in ancient rome, we can assume that Tessa was a sex worker.
I think it's a leap. Just because something exists and might have happened doesn't mean it did. It's also inaccurate to say that clergy didn't bring in any money unless they were selling booty, and those profit margines also reference her training, and you really don't need to train a prostitute
You kinda do need to train a prostitute, or are you telling me you could go out pole dance without any form of practice? The Greater Meh (talk) 22:56, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
And you think that training will cost a lot of money? Maybe lots of special equipment? Either way, it's largely a moot point, because you could just as easily put forth that she was trained to be a scribe, a cook, or even a janitor. Temples used initiates for all those things. Josman (talk) 23:12, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
the profit margins refer to her "earnings" as the exact term was a Cost-benefit analysis of her training versus her earnings. Scribes, cooks, and janitors wouldn't be a source of income for the temple.
Are you kidding? In a largely illiterate world scribes are quite valuable. Heck, until the days of the printing press, having lots literate people tended to be one of the major sources of income of temples, as in addition to copying (and sometimes selling) holy texts, they'd also do a lot of the community's record keeping. There's a reason most communal records are held by religious institutions until a society adopts civil administration. Josman (talk) 04:27, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Kemmler description: Do we really need the flowery fanfic description?
Oh i'm sorry, everything on 1D4Chan has to be a professional, serious description? I didn't know that.
You don't need to be a sarcastic git because someone doesn't like your prose.

Kemmler's Death: Is it confirmed that he was nuked, or are people just assuming the connection because Halloween, Russia, 1961?

Someone asked Butcher in an interview if Kemmler's death was related to the Tsar Bomba, an he replied that they were reading too much into it, But he followed up with a winky emoticon, signifying sarcasm(which he's famous for among the fanbase)
Fair Enough. Freaking council, gotta be working with the commies. Maybe that's why the Hallowed Halls aren't in the US right now. It's all a soviet conspiracy.
Its worth considering that Jim never actually said the Tzar Bomba killed him. It could have been a cover up story for a spell, or Kemmler's death curse. Josman (talk) 04:30, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Emissary v Chosen v True Believer: Where are you even getting these distinctions? They seem kind of ham handed anyway.

They're from the EvilHat website
Yeah, I saw that. Read through the RPG books now. TBH I think the way EvilHat handled it was pretty clumsy, but this is the RPG page, so I guess it fits.

Changes to Mother Summer: We don't know if Harry's interaction with them is typical. We shouldn't assume.

That means we know absolutely nothing about them, since by your logic, Harry's interactions with them are completely unique and indicate absolutely nothing about their character
No, I'm saying that very specific interactions they have with a knight of their court may very well not reflect the average visitor's experience.
But Harry wasn't a Knight when he met them in Summer Knight (though he was Winter's chosen Hand. The Greater Meh (talk) 22:55, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
True, but my opposition is more to the idea that Harry's second meeting with them (pissing off Mother Winter by calling for her, then getting his ass dragged to their hut and beaten around by mother winter) is the typical greeting. I've got no problem with relaying that information, but making it sound like it's just business as usual is completely misleading, because we don't have a large enough sample size to determine what is or is not typical. Also, saying very dangerous Bison is redundant.

FORMATTING Leave the extra lines between the sections. They make is easier to quickly adjust lines and switch between sections. It's only a fraction of a second each time, but when you multiply that by dozens of edits, it saves time.

Then you get that extra point in front
Like I said, it's useful during editting. When a section is done, then you come back and adjust it. If we're done with the mass edits on those sections it can be removed.
So can I get rid of the ones in the Council section now?
Man, the way you do editing is so different from my own, I doubt it would even help you. Do what you will. Josman (talk) 04:27, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Final Pictures needed, One of the Senior council (preferably all of them together, there is a really good one from the RPG books that features LaFortier rather than Cristos), One for a Rampire, and maybe one for Bob and Uriel.

Losing track of the big picture[edit]

Yeah, we have to remember what this page is supposed to be. I'm thinking that once I get done with my current project, I'm going to overhaul this page. It's supposed to be the page for the Dresdenverse RPG, not a spoilerpage for all the dresdenverse lore. I'm probably going to divide this into two pages. One (this one) will be comprised mostly of gameplay and setting information, and I'll create a second lore page that will have most of what's here, but I'll probably spoiler police it, and more or less remove all lore that takes place during or after changes, where literally everything becomes impossibly spoilerish. Can we keep the post Changes stuff? A lot the lore I added to help with making campaign stories, and the Paranet and Fomor don't really get fleshed out till post-Changes
I'll be playing it by ear, mostly. I'll be keeping in a bunch of it, but I'll probably be pulling out the purely theoretical stuff (Mother Winter is Death, Cowl is Simon, etc). My goal is mainly to avoid heavy spoilers. If something seems retentive to the game we can leave it. It'll be an ongoing process. Josman (talk) 23:03, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
Second, formatting stuff. You can (and should) sign your work by pressing the tilde key (~) four times. Discussion is usually done with an increasing number of :'s at the beginning. Josman (talk) 23:03, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Links[edit]

Should we add links in the page?PurposeDrone (talk) 14:08, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
