Talk:Warhammer 40,000/Tactics/Grey Knights(8E)
In regards to the claim about Purifiers being able to average of seven mortal wounds using Cleansing Flame; this seems to be incorrect. P. 178 of the core rule book seems to limit powers to one use per unit (The particular passage states "A psyker cannot attempt to manifest the same psychic power more than one a turn).
The only thing I have found so far that somewhat contradicts this is in the Matched Play Mission rules under "Psychic Focus", which states that "With the exception of smite. each psychic power can be attempted only once per turn, rather than once per psyker per turn". While it does indicate that smite is not subject to the restrictions of other discipline powers (or what have you), it still does not indicate that smite can be used more than once per unit in and of itself. I am very likely to be missing something here, and if you know where that something can be found, let me know! If not, then the information presented within is inaccurate.
- I suspect the author meant to say two squads of five in the land raider, rather than ten. In which case two castings of Purifying Flame will cause on average seven wounds and aught to be allowed in matched play since Smite can be cast by any number of units, but one squad of purifiers can only cast it once. --Dark Angel 2020 (talk) 16:27, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Termi prices and usefulness[edit]
I may be quiet a newbie in the hobby but the whole part on the "awesome" terminators is just awful. I mean, the "normal" SM Termi costs 26 per model, 31 for the cheese type like DW or Assault. So with 46 pt/model, the GK Termi are damn expensive, too expensive for my taste. Because for this amazing amount of points, you get better weapons and a psychic power but that's not worth 20 extra points in my opinion. So I think we should change this part of the article.
- You do realise 26pts is the price without Power Fist and Storm bolter? Vanilla Terminator costs 40 points, and Power Fist got price reduction from 20 to 12 points in SM Codex. --Flutist (talk) 17:31, 5 August 2017 (UTC)
Odd, because in my index imperium 1, the Vanilla Terminator costs 26, including Storm Bolter and Power Fist. Another thing that appears to me as a bad deal with the GK Terminators is that, being troops, they have one Ld point less than Vanilla. And in this edition they desperatly need such a point. So I still find them damn too expensive compared to the Vanilla counterpart, though I understand the "overprice" because they are Troops and not Elite. --Nadir666 (talk) 20:07, 7 August 2017 (UTC)
- Flutist just pointed out that the vanilla termies are priced as they are because the power fists act as a tax. Units have to buy their gear separately, even if they come equipped with it by default. Grey Knight melee weapons outside of hammers just so happen to be free this edition, so there's not nearly as wide as price gap as you seem to think.--Cephrain (talk) 20:32, 7 August 2017 (UTC)
Man, how can I have misread that? That's a quite heavy tax for all the GK units, but it was very clearly written though. Thx for the info. If someone want to erase this thread, feel free (although I can leave with it and my silliness--Nadir666 (talk) 21:25, 7 August 2017 (UTC)
On the other hand, Terminators cost just about 10 points a model less than Paladins. Compared to regular Termies, for ~50 points a 5-man squad, Paladins get +5 attacks, +5 wounds, and 1 model with 2+ WS. That makes them WAY more destructive and survivable than regular Terminators for about 25% more points. Meanwhile, Strike Squads cost 20 points per model less than Termies, for the EXACT same offensive power point-for point. This leaves Terminators in a weird middle ground. If you want scoring troops, get Strikes. If you want a sledgehammer use Paladins. Even though they're not actually overcosted in themselves, our Terminators are still not worth taking. So not "awesome" at all. Gothmaug (talk) 19:20, 7 February 2018 (PST)
Grey. Knight. CHAPLAIN[edit]
As of the new codex GK have Chaplains now. What the fuck.... It's good for rules but broken bottle-rapes the fluff. We need to add it though because it's seriously OP in a GK CQC list. Thoughts?
- "Useful in a punchy army." <-- The tactical depth of this entry is astounding.
I would love to add something, but I'm quite unsure of how. First, I think it is not an overpriced model compared to the Vanilla one (+29 points if I'm not mistaken) for having a psychic power/deny the witch + getting BS 2+ rather than 3+ and coming with some grenades. All that seems quite fair to me. But then, on a second thought, I ask myself: is it so OP for this price? Because for 6 points more, you have a brother-captain and for 16 points more, a Grand Master. At such prices, I think the Grand Master is better, because he allows to re-roll all hit rolls of 1 (which are basically the only ones you reroll because your whole army has WS and BS 2+, so unless psychic shit or ability, it is better) and comes with 1 more Wound and 2 more Attacks. The Brother Captain comes with only one more attack and his psychic locus, allowing you to blast people with psychic stuff on a longer range, which also a really good ability.--Nadir666 (talk) 22:06, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
The only good reason to take this guy over the Grand Master is the Leadership question, because he grants a 9 to all nearby units, which is not bad when troops have 7 (or 8 with justicar). But it does not necessarily makes him an auto-include even in CQC armies. But that's just my opinion, feel free to contradict me because I can miss some big points.
The New Beatstickmasterbabycarrier[edit]
Was i wrong? The Nemesisbabycarriergrandmaster got 12W; the text said 15 - But neither FaQ or Dex got the 15. Maybe it was a small mistake. Also i found that Sanctuary did realy well on him. The 3++ with his Body is stupidly good. Beste Regards, Ironfist
Yes, 12 W is correct. I'm also a huge fan of this guy. Take the hammer, and enjoy whacking stuff withe the equivalent of 5 S 12 Neutron Laser attacks. Definitely one of the best anti-tank and anti-character units, being able to one shot most single models. He can successfully duel an Imperial Knight. Efficiently kills anything except: Hammernators, hordes, and Primarchs. And avoid Shadowswords like the plague unless you want to end up melted in a single volley.
Allies with "armory" stratagems[edit]
The way the Armoury of Titan and similar stratagems are worded, is it possible to spend CP to get relics from an allied army, even if your warlord is from another army? For example, if I'm playing GK with Imperial Guard, could I make my warlord a Grey Knight, and then use Imperial Commander's Armoury to get one "extra" AM relic, going from 0 to 1?
Armouries on the various army pages.[edit]
This is mostly a repost of a question I had on the main tactics page, but I'll be posting it on all the most frequently updated tacticas because it applies to all of them and I'd like to hear any arguments against it.
I've been wondering this for a while now, but what do the armoury sections add that cannot be covered by unit entries? Everything in them is either stating info that is obvious and redundant to anyone holding the relevant book (which are the people using the tactica in the first place), or it's insight that is restated in the unit entry itself, where it's actually relevant. I get why we list relics since those are usually unique to the army and can be applies to a ton of different characters for different builds, same with Warlord Traits, and both of those are usually not covered in the various unit entries, instead that advice is usually covered in the relic and traits sections which makes sense. But for the regular armouries I'm not really seeing why we keep them around at all to be honest, since they take up so much space and it's annoying to scroll past that kind of bloat. How should we improve them, if possible (so that they're not just restating profiles) or should we just remove them? Personally I'm leaning more towards getting rid of them entirely. -- Triacom (talk) 18:56, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
