Update as of March 2018: Two years later and wow ok. Firstly this is coming from a different author who's writing personal opinion based on facts. Secondly hats off to my predecessor for starting so well and lets get into this.
- "Lord Kevin" has been busy, and it shows. The amount of boxed games GW has been coughing up is a sight to behold, and each one is great fun. One point for happy community.
- Unfortunately new lore in the 40k Universe has been abysmal, and that's due to the boss man's decisions. Yes models make the money but the models lose a certain sparkle if their lore is trash. Let me explain.
In an attempt to appeal to a broader market, GW has dampened the key themes of 40K, taking it from a satirical tongue in cheek criticism of blind religion and human nature to a rather lackluster goody versus baddy pile of crap that only distinguishes itself by virtue of model quality and pre-established lore. Shadowspear is the perfect example. Lovely new box set, fantastic new models, amazing updated models and reasonably priced- Two points for happy community. But it's not all good; the set only has Primaris Marines confirming GW is leaving their long term and meaningful relationship with the Marines of our youth and getting into an ill advised fling with the pretty yet vacuous mistress who is the Primaris Lieutenant. One point for unhappy community.
- So GW and the bossman don't understand the term grimdark, fine. TO them it's just something grim. Or dark. They have no comprehension of subtlety of character or dramatic irony or the downsides of organised religion. Fine. But what they do understand is business. GW shares rise every Quarter, money is flowing in, the Community complains at price increases but at least the money is being put to good use. Lord K has overseen some of the best models (opinion) GW has ever produced, at the slight cost of bankrupting every hobbyist outside of Europe. I'd say it's tied on the happy-sad scale 3-3
